As many of you know from the nets, I bought a 350 amp Inverter Technology welder on Ebay.
Here is the new welder on top of my Air Force Airframe Welder, a 450 Amp AC stick / tig welder with high frequency arc starting and a foot pedal current control. It's from the 1960's and weighs a half ton! I thought it would be time to try the new technology out.
Right out of the box, the power cord looks like the unit was used and returned.
Here, the unit is set to AC, with a weld current set to 5 Amps.
Here you can see my clamp on ammeter pinned on the 60 amp scale measuring the ground wire current.
Here you see an attempt at butt welding aluminum. 5 amps, the current the welder is set for, would not be able to do this much damage. These holes are consistent with the 60 amps my ammeter shows.
Thanks Rob, W2RWS, for the heads up about Ebay standing behind you. The vendor wanted me to take videos and send them directly to them. Thinking about what you said, I'm thinking he wants to get Ebay out of the picture. I made an excuse that I didn't want to damage my camera with the intense arc. I included the last 4 pictures with my response THROUGH Ebay!
