The following heat map should be viewed as a WIP (Work-In-Progress). It's predicated on the best data (with some extrapolations in the meantime!) on our simplex tests conducted the week of February 22. The concept of the map can best be summarized by viewing the Key. The Latitude, Longitude and Elevations are shown for each members' QTH. The number in each matrix cell, is distance in miles between QTH points (LAT/LON) calculated using the Haversine formula. The matrix is organized by the most northern latitude (K2LD) through the most southern latitude (AD2BE). It would only make sense that those contact cells located near the diagonals would be most beneficial to strong signal communication capability but there are some exceptions. Elevation and line of site of course usually win out!! With this "heat map" concept now being shared with our team, we can improve upon our simplex testing in the future, focusing not only on ability to hear / contact other parties, but putting more emphasis on signal strength per contact (for those that have S-meters of course).
