A recurring question on the ‘8:35 on the 805’ morning QSO from participants considering purchasing a DMR equipped radio is, “Who will I be talking to?”
One resource that can help answer that question is the Talk Group 91 Worldwide Net that takes place on DMR Talk Group 91 commencing at 16:00 UTC on Saturdays. The net commences with call-ins from the Far East and working across the continents in a westerly direction where the last call-ins are taken from the individual States of America.
Each week when the net is finished, Andy AC2HE the net administrator creates a table showing number of check-ins from each country and posts it on a website he has set up at: http://www.ac2he.com/. His QTH is Breesport, NY near Elmira and I have enjoyed checking in from time to time and visiting the website to observe the growth of DMR participation over the past three years. Thanks Andy!
The table above is the typical summary of the net held on Saturdays at 1600 UTC. This one is from June 22, 2020.
This is a great opportunity to access the activity on DMR and also to note the countries that call into the net. Naturally, the number of call-ins from some areas will coincide with the early hours of the morning but even these countries show up on the table indicating that some Hams will transmit at the wee hours of the morning.
For the ‘data hungry’ amongst us you can also download an archive folder containing past weekly compilations of check-ins going back to January of 2018.
The website again is: http://www.ac2he.com.
