First of all, I want to know who thinks up the names for these radios? Sheesh!
Aside from the silly name however, I have nothing but good things to say about my Anytone 5888 Tri-Band Transceiver which transmits and receives on 2 Meters [144-148MHz]; 1.25 Meters [222-225MHz] and 70 Centimeters [420-450MHz].
On all three bands there is a wider receive range that allows you to have fun listening to emergency services, aviation and weather frequencies.
My good friend Frank AB2ZO who sadly passed away in earlier this year (2020) just before the Pandemic hit urged me to purchase this user-friendly rig and I will always think of it as ‘Frank’s radio’.
Frank knew that I did not want to get into dealing with drilling holes in my SUV’s firewall and threading electrical harnesses from the car battery to the radio. With his over 47 years of experience as a Ham I was happy to have his advice and I listened carefully to his explanation of the merits of the radio.
It took me about 10 minutes the first time I put the radio in the car using the ‘Cigar-Plug Connection’ power line and a cup-holder bracket for the Front Panel. The main body that holds the dual speakers sits under the driver’s seat.
The sound is great and I have received compliments on my audio transmissions.
I purchased my Anytone from R&L Electronics (www.randl.com) in October of 2019 for $ 219.00
