What First Ham Radio ? - Icom 7300? Yaesu 991A?

Which base radio station are members using ...? What do you enjoy about it .. (Features, etc) ? What Power supply (affordable is good)? Microphone? Accessories? Why? Seems like many members on the 805 morning talk, have the Yaesu 991a and really like it. A few own the Icom 7300 and say THEY LOVE IT. It's beginning to sound like the presidential debates. Neither radio is cheap. I figure, at my age, this will be my first and last ham radio purchase ... so .. I want something with longetivity (well ..at least as long as I'm kicking). I love my handhelds (Yaesu 70dr and the Anytone 878), but when I first thought about learning more about ham, these weren't my priority. Matter of fact, I didn't know digital and repeaters existed till I joined the morning talk group.

Nice side by side comparison John. Do you already have a VHF/UHF base station that puts out 50 watts?

Before that, 2 Pepsi cans with very long strings.

@John Petrocelli John, given that information, I would side with Joe AD2AH's suggestion about the utility value of the FT-991a over the Icom (which I have and dearly love). When I purchased my Icom 7300, I already had two Yaesu 857D 'shack in a box' radios which gave me both HF and VHF/UHF in one very good radio. Therefore I focused on the great features such as the large touch screen; software defined radio; filters, CW, digital and computer link-up features of the ICOM...for a below $1,000 price. I think you will be well served by the FT-991A.
